Our Vision: Building for Life
Curriculum Intent
Our school vision ‘Building for Life’ and our core values of caring, respect and perseverance are very much at the heart of our curriculum at The Ridgeway Church of England Primary School. We aim to provide broad, vibrant curriculum which enables our pupils to explore their learning in all its fullness and which equips our pupils for their future.
Our curriculum reflects our desire to support our pupils in becoming enthusiastic life-long learners. Pupils who care about and who persevere in their learning, especially when challenged. The ability to learn is underpinned in all curriculum subject areas by a clear framework, by the teaching of skills, knowledge, concepts and vocabulary. Each phase of learning builds upon what has been taught before and gives pupils the required knowledge and skills for their next stage of learning.
Our intent is to provide a curriculum which moves beyond the academic and which recognises the whole child. We want our pupils to have rich learning experiences beyond the classroom including educational visits and extra-curricular activities.
Beyond this we want our children to have opportunities to interact with their own community, to care for and respect their own locality and beyond, to be inquisitive. As part of this we plan ways in which we can provide our children with experiences of working respectfully alongside their own communities (through working with local community groups for example, or volunteers) and beyond including exploring global issues and promoting opportunities for children to be active global citizens. We recognise that our children are our future community leaders and want them to be active citizens within their community with this in mind we plan for leadership opportunities, e.g. leading collective worship, recycling champions, school council.
We actively explore ways to expand the children’s experiences of our diverse society through the promotion of British Values alongside spiritual, moral, social and cultural development exploring other cultures and countries through our curriculum, assemblies, class discussions and our shared experiences.
